Highlights of Morningside Heights Morningside Heights is home to Columbia University — and so much more! Let tour guide Mel Lehman, who holds Masters degrees from both Columbia and nearby Union Theological Seminary, show you some of the remarkable parts of this unique neighborhood. Besides going to school there, he worked in the area for 20 years. So even though we’ll only be seeing the outsides of most of the buildings, with his own experience and the help of his laptop he’ll help you take an imaginative trip inside some of the closed buildings. Highlights include: Grant’s Tomb, Columbia University, Riverside Church and the Cathedral of St. John the Divine and yes, if you’re interested, the exterior of the restaurant from the TV show “Seinfeld.” We’ll also see: Barnard College, Union Theological Seminary, the statue of the composer of “Taps,” The Interchurch Center (which includes in its cornerstone a stone from ancient Corinth), Manhattan School of Music, Jewish Theological Seminary, the site of a Revolutionary War battle, and a restaurant and coffee shop which President Obama visited when he was a student at Columbia.
