Looking to get away without getting on a plane? Join me for a walking tour of NYC’s Little Ireland in Woodlawn at the northern part of the Bronx, just above the namesake cemetery (Woodlawn Cemetery). The neighborhood of Woodlawn which sits at the border of Yonkers and The Bronx has been home for generations of Irish-Americans as well as Irish Immigrants. Flowing up Katonah Ave. we will cross the border of NYC into Westchester where we find McLean Ave. in Yonkers you will see the presence of the Irish Community on both Katonah and McLean Avenues. Woodlawn was such a destination for Irish immigrants that there is the Irish Immigration Center on Katonah Ave. and the Aisling Irish Community Center on McLean Avenue both are sources for existing and new Irish immigrants to Woodlawn and the US. Looking for that Irish Sweater? Bangers & Mash? Smoky Bacon Crisps? Traditional Irish Music? Irish Breakfast? You can find it all here in Little Ireland. Woodlawn Cemetery is an easy stop before or after this tour. Come along with me and get a taste of Ireland without the jet lag!
