(Re)discover a neighborhood. Tenements and glossy condos. Streets broad and narrow. History, humanity – and maybe hot bialys. Synagogues that were churches, synagogues that were demolished (and upon request, one that has been restored). Echoes of Jewish, Latino and Chinese cultures. If you haven’t been here in a couple of decades, you’ll be startled to witness the transformation. If Lower East Side clubbing is your thing, the area’s richly textured past will surprise you. Looking up at the old tenements, you’ll imagine mothers yelling out of windows to the kids in the streets. And though mom isn’t gonna call us to come in for dinner, there are still places to grab a snack – with history. Or dine in comfort after the tour. (not a food tour as such) This was the immigrant neighborhood that millions called home. The immigrant neighborhood that millions later fled. And this is the neighborhood that a later generation of New Yorkers has embraced. Now, it’s your turn!
