As NYC’s most diverse borough, Queens has so much to offer. One highlight is Flushing Meadows-Corona Park, home to both the 1939 and 1964 World’s Fairs. These grounds still house iconic NYC landmarks such as the Unisphere and the New York State Pavilion, and the nearby USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center (home of the annual US Open), as well as Citifield (home of the NY Mets). Learn the history as we see the sights, as I provide historical photos and stories from the past.
Our expedition will begin off the 7 train (known to locals as the “international express”). From there, we will enter Flushing Meadows-Corona Park, whose acreage is larger than Central Park. Explore the park and its landmarks and learn about the history of the two Worlds Fair it was home to, both of which were crucial in changing the infrastructure of New York City in lasting ways.
Learn how integral Walt Disney was to the planning of the ‘64 Fair and how you’ve likely experienced one of its signature attractions! Visit the site that first housed the UN General Assembly! Hear the story of the two capsules set to be opened in the year 6939. Get the most unique tour of NYC through the Panorama of the City of New York. And more!
Whether you visited the Fair and want to relive the memories, or want to see the sites familiar from so many films, this is a great tour to discover one of the more unique historical sites in New York.
Finally, our tour will end inside the Queens Museum, for a look at its World’s Fair collection and exhibits (museum admission included in tour fee).
This is a leisurely walking tour that is comfortable for all ages.
