Once a blue-collar immigrant neighborhood, Williamsburg, Brooklyn has become an international destination for art and nightlife. However, just a few blocks from the densely-packed restaurants and bars, we find an older, more traditional Williamsburg where lifelong residents preserve customs and attire dating back centuries. Nowhere in New York is there such a sharp contrast between the avant-garde and the ancestral–the modest and the ostentatious. On this tour we explore Williamsburg as a whole, not just the hip North Side. More than just sight and sound, this tour engages all five senses with food stops that complement the narrative and help us dig below the surface of Brooklyn’s coolest (and tastiest) neighborhood. Join us as we will marvel at the outfits, facial hair and attitudes of Brooklyn’s “hipsters,” discuss the history and politics of the Hasidic Jews, and spice up our day with many a mouth-watering morsel.
